Welcome to my class. I’m looking forward to a year filled with learning and self-expression. It is our responsibility to make our classroom atmosphere what we want it be, which will include respecting each other’s personal and cultural differences and ideas. I’m depending on you to open your minds so that we can learn and grow together.

SUPPLIES:
- 1” hard cover 3-ring binder filled with 100 pages wide-ruled, loose-leaf paper (it will be your responsibility to refill loose-leaf paper as
needed)
- Several pens
WORK LOAD:
- Reading (silent and oral)
- Class and homework assignments
- Vocab., lit. terms, & grammar
- Journal writing
- Note taking
- Public speaking
- Group work
- Discussions
- Projects
- Formal essays (both in and out of class)
- Quizzes
- Exams
POINT SYSTEM:
- In-class/homework assignments/quizzes 5-20 points
- In-class essays, cold-reads, speeches, dramatic performances 25-100 points
- Projects, essays, exams 100-200 points
GRADE SCALE: A = 90% – 100%
B = 80% – 89%
C = 70% – 79%
D = 60% – 69%
F = Below 60%
PARTICIPATION:
- QOD (20 points – will collect set after 20 quotes and begin again)
- On time to class - In seat when bell rings
o After 3rd tardy will receive 1 demerit through disciplinary office
§ WARNING: I TAKE TARDINESS VERY SERIOUSLY –
§ DO NOT be late to class
- Prepared for class
o Come to class with all supplies necessary
o Homework READY, placed in homework tray upon entering class
- Each student is required to attend every class period (see student handbook for further information). Excessive absences will result in
lowering of grades
- Class discussions & debates, group work, skits, speeches, open mic sessions etc.
- *HERE IS YOUR CHANCE TO GAIN EASY POINTS BASED ON ENTHUSIASM, ATTITUDE AND EFFORT - Possessing
these attributes will take you far!!
HERE ARE MY DONT’S
- Don’t come to my class late.
- Don’t come to my class without your I.D. on (waist up)
- Don’t come into my class wearing ear buds, headphones etc.
- Don’t have your cell phone in your hands (it must be off and out of sight) -
- Don’t come into my class wearing an outdoor jacket, sunglasses, etc.
- Don’t bring food or snacks or drinks to my class unless absolutely necessary
o If so – eat or drink as quickly, quietly, and neatly as possible
- Don’t leave trash in my class or on the floor
- Don’t chew gum in my class (dispose of it before entering the classroom – NOT ON OR UNDER YOUR DESK)
- Don’t touch anyone else’s desk or anything of anybody else’s without his or her permission
- Don’t write or scratch on desks, walls, etc.
- Don’t use any discriminatory language based on race, color, religion, national origin, age, disability, gender, or sexual orientation that may
foster a hostile environment
- Don’t interrupt when someone is speaking (raise your hand when you want to speak; when I am speaking listen respectfully)
- Don’t begin to pack up your supplies while I am speaking (I will give you a warning before the bell rings)
- Don’t get out of your seat and stand by the door before the bell rings
- Don’t ask for a hall pass unless it is an extreme emergency
o If you need to use the restroom before class, come to class first, and let me know you may be a minute late (should not become
habitual)
INTERNATIONAL DAYS, SPORTS, EXTRACURRICULARS and FIELD TRIPS:
- Students who are failing will not be allowed to participate in activities that take place during this class. The administration, coaches, club sponsors, and parents are in support of this policy. In order to receive my signature on permits that require you to miss this class, you must be passing this class.
